Do you want mac os X look in linux?Download Lin-X

Recently i read an article about mac4lin in downloadsaquad.mac4lin brings Apple's UI design to a Linux install near you, including great details like app icons and even the Dock.I was really intersted in this project. Then i happened to reach a website from the mac4lin project creator Anirudh Acharya's blog.It was about a similar project aimed to creat mac os X look in linux. It is aptly named as Lin-X.This is their website.

I was really impressed by the screenshots given in their homepage.I decided to try it.It is available as a live dvd of 970 mb.I downloaded it from torrent.

About Lin-X project:

Lin-X is an OS based off of the most popular Linux distribution, Ubuntu.Lin-X looks like Mac OSX and shares many of the same features. With Lin-X you get the security and stability of Ubuntu with the feel of OSX.Because Lin-X is based off of Ubuntu it shares the same repositories and update manager, along with the release dates Unlike other Linux distributions Lin-X comes jam-packed with loads of “i-candy” and also with compiz fusion installed.
My experience with live-dvd:

I booted the live dvd.It took nearly 2 minutes to boot the dvd. After booting it introduced me to a wonderful desktop which almost looks like macOS X.It is based on ubuntu 8.10 so it features Gnome desktop.Because of the wallpaper they used it almost looks like os x.It feature a doc in the place of task bar and it keeps the gnome bar at the top.(see the screenshots). It uses all the packs comes with ubuntu with lot of customisation in thier looks.

It uses firefox, gnome photo viewer, totem player for video, rythmbox for music, open office for office, pidgin,aMSN,synaptic package manager, nautilis installer etc...So there is no need to tell about these things.Everything worked just fine. The doc icons will jump if we select it.It also have nice compiz effects. One thing i noticed is that the fonts. All fonts were uncluttered and nice to see.

This is the beautiful firefox i have ever seen in linux desktop.Totem player was playing avi file nicely.Rythmbox player was looking like iTunes. But inthe foto viewer there was no option for playing slideshow.I don't know why it was like this.If anybody knows, please tell me in comments.

It comes with all the games as in ubuntu. It uses open office 2.4 version.Whatever thing is currently playing are displayed in the gnome bar. There is an option to search the application from gnome bar itself and in right side of the bar it shows recent applications used.

There is no need to describe about this beautiful os any more as it has the stability and security of ubuntu and the beauty of osX.Every thing is self explanatory from the screen shots.I already decided to seed it in torrent atleast for a month. Now an interesting thing i noticed is that day by day more people are joining in the torrent. Now i'm seriously considering to make it as a primary os.Tell your opinion in comments.

I'm very happy to announce that Mac4Lin has been declared as one of the finalists at Sourceforge.net Community Awards 2009 in the Best Visual Design category. The final phase of voting began today and will run till July 20th 2009. Please vote for Mac4Lin, if you feel it deserves to be voted. To vote click on this image:

http://sf.net/community/cca09/vote/?f=414

Optionally, you can also click on the first box in the right frame on my blog (http://phoenix-ani.blogspot.com). You do not need to Sourceforge.net login id. All you need is a valid email id. Each vote is associated with an email id, which needs confirmation that you actually voted (you will get an email giving a confirmation link, so all you need to do is click it). The whole voting process takes just 3 clicks.

I urge patrons to vote for Mac4Lin if they feel it should win. I once again thank everyone for their continued support, feedback and appreciation. Mac4Lin exists today because of you all :) Do spread the word around about this.

Btw, Lin-X uses Mac4Lin as its default UI
